Yes, you can attend meetings, document your hours, and later decide if you want to pursue certification status. Individual and group consultation is a great place for learning, support, and clinical growth.

EMDRIA requires a minimum of 20 hours of consultation with an EMDRIA-Approved Consultant, at least 10 of which must be individual. The remaining hours can be individual, group, or a combination. These hours are one piece of certification, alongside 50 EMDR sessions with at least 25 clients, 12 EMDRIA continuing education credits, and two years of post-licensure experience. Requirements are set by EMDRIA and can change, so I always encourage you to confirm the current standards directly on their website before you begin logging hours.

As an EMDRIA Consultant in Training, I can provide up to 15 of your 20 required consultation hours. The remaining hours are completed with a fully Approved Consultant. I'll always be transparent about where you are in your hours and what you still need, so there are no surprises on your path to certification. I also provide referrals upon request to a consultant to complete the remainder of the hours necessary.

Completing an EMDRIA-approved basic training means you're EMDR trained — you can ethically use EMDR with your clients right away. Certification is a separate, voluntary credential that recognizes advanced competency through documented sessions, consultation hours, and continuing education. You don't need certification to practice EMDR, but many clinicians pursue it to deepen their skills and signal that experience to clients and other providers who refer for EMDR.
